» Home Office Telephone Frauds and Scams

We have, again, been made aware that a number of students have recently been contacted by fraudsters saying that there is a problem with their visa and then trying to extort money from them.

If you are contacted by someone purporting to be from the Home Office or other government agency, please ask for their contact details and tell them you will ask the University’s Immigration & International Student Advice team (IISA) to speak to them on your behalf. If they refuse to accept this, then it is likely to be a scam, state you will contact the UKVI via the University for verification and then hang up. Please then contact the IISA team immediately.

Please do not give out personal or account information to anyone by telephone or email and, if you are not sure, come in to see us in IISA for advice.

» Spaces available for Welsh night tonight!

Calling all students – new and old!

As you know, we are currently welcoming our new February 2017 students to the University and tonight is the last night of International Welcome Programme, which can only mean one thing! Welsh Night with a Twmpath!

Those of you who attended an IWP will already know that a Twmpath is where you take part in traditional Welsh dancing – It is a lot of fun and hilarious to watch your friends having a go and to have a go yourself! Those who haven’t yet experienced a Twmpath should definitely come along as it is a great opportunity to take part in this Welsh cultural tradition (wear your dancing shoes though!!). There will also be a DJ once the Twmpath has finished.

Tickets for students will be available on the door at Stilts tonight from 8pm at £1 each, and a cash bar will be available. Please note tickets are on a first come, first served basis as we have limited space for dancing.

» Home Office Telephone Frauds and Scams

We have, again, been made aware that a number of students have recently been contacted by fraudsters saying that there is a problem with their visa and then trying to extort money from them.

Please be aware of their tactics and know that the Home Office or legitimate organisations never contact students to insist they pay money at very short notice. For details, see the UKCISA item on telephone frauds and scams.

Please then contact the IISA immediately.

As we are coming up to the Christmas period, you may also get scam emails about gifts or unusual activity on your debit or credit card.

Please do not give out personal or account information to anyone by telephone or email and, if you are not sure, come in to see us in IISA for advice.
