» Student Finance Application Deadline Dates

Re-apply for your student finance as soon as possible to make sure you have your money when you return to your course.

Some continuing students have been automatically assessed by Student Finance England for financial support for their studies next academic year and others should have been sent a reminder to re-apply.

If you have not already done so, you can go online and re-apply

You need to print out the declaration form, sign it and return it to your funding body. Once they’ve processed your application they’ll send you your Student Finance Entitlement letter. If you applied for Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs) last year along with your student finance, you won’t need to re-apply for DSAs every year. If you only applied for DSAs last year they’ll send you the form to re-apply. If you’re applying for DSAs for the first time, you’ll need to download the form, or let your funding body know and they’ll send you a copy.

The quickest and easiest way to apply/check your assessment is online. If you apply after the deadline date, you might not get all your money in time for the start of your course, but they’ll try to make an initial assessment so you’ll have some money as close to the start of your course as possible.

We would also encourage students funded by Student Finance Northern Ireland, Student Finance Wales and Student Awards Agency Scotland to re-apply as soon as possible.

The deadline dates for returning students are:
Student Finance Wales 10 June 2016
Student Finance England 24 June 2016
Student Finance Northern Ireland and Student Awards Agency Scotland 30 June 2016

» Sir Peter Holmes Memorial Award 2016

Are you considering travelling to Asia in 2016?

The Royal Society for Asian Affairs invites applications from individuals who will be aged 18-25 at the time of the proposed trip for an award established in memory of Sir Peter Holmes MC (1932-2002), a long-standing member of the Society who besides becoming Chairman of the Royal Dutch Shell Group was a distinguished traveller, mountaineer, fisherman and photographer.

The Award is to encourage individual purposeful travel in Asia by young people, organized by themselves and not part of a group organized by another organization. Applicants should submit a plan of a project involving travel in a country or countries of Asia and relating to the geography, history, politics, environmental conservation, culture or art of the area to be visited. Any part of Asia, including the Middle East, may be chosen. Plans should be costed as far as possible and should state the duration of the travel involved and how the costs will be met. The award will be made on the basis of originality, coherence, evidence of background knowledge, and the degree to which the project is likely to add to general understanding of the area chosen and/or to benefit local people or the applicant. Preference will be given to projects that are not requirements in an academic or other course and ideally should not be part of or related to the curriculum of the applicant’s current course.

For further details and how to apply, go to Royal Society for Asian Affairs website
Closing date: 12 November 2015.
