» Great improvements to wifi access — at Glamorgan, UK and worldwide

Do you ever visit other educational organisations? Remember what a nuisance it is to try to access their wifi, with strange passwords that never seem quite to work? Well, thanks to a new service, coming shortly, our staff and students can gain internet access using their university email address and Glamorgan password.

The new service is called Eduroam (education roaming). It’s a secure, worldwide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. You can go online to find out which are the UK’s participating organisations and those worldwide .

Here at Glamorgan, for our staff and students, we will be launching this new wireless service across all our campuses, initially at Treforest and the Atrium from early July with Glyntaff and the Tyn-y-Wern Sports Park following at the end of the summer (exact dates of availability will be announced here on Stafflife). It also means that visitors from other Eduroam institutions will be able to access our wifi service quickly and easily.

Note that Eduroam will eventually replace our current glamstudent and glam-mobile services, though both will remain in service until all staff and students have successfully moved onto Eduroam.
