» What is Christianity? - Course, March 2014

Are you

  • a Christian wanting to explore your faith further?
  • not a Christian but interested in finding out more about Christianity?

This course will attempt to:

  • acquaint you with the basic facts: the story of Jesus, how Christianity began, how it has grown and developed, what it looks like today
  • explore the issues of belief: how Christians express and interpret their faith in different ways

The aim is not to persuade you or impose our own beliefs – it is to open up and discuss issues.

The course is in four sessions:

  1. What is Christianity? The history and geography; the main Christian churches and traditions; a general overview of Christianity today as a world faith.
  2. Jesus: his story, his teaching, and what Christians believe about him.
  3. The Bible: a general introduction to its history and content; the different views about its authority and how to interpret it.
  4. Is Christianity Unique? What is it about Christianity that makes it different from other faiths? Does it matter? How do Christians relate to people of other faiths?

The course will be held on Wednesdays March 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th from 5.30 to 7.00 pm at the Meeting House. After a brief input there will be some soup and rolls (FREE!) and discussion around the table.

Please register to come by:

If you haven’t registered you can still come, but it will be helpful for us to have an idea of numbers for catering.

» Meeting House celebrates first 200 kilos of food banked!

Last term, the Chaplaincy’s Meeting House Group appealed for support for the new Foodbank opening in Rhydfelin. The response from across campus has been amazing! Students and staff of the University of Glamorgan have already invested more than two hundred kilos of dried and tinned food in the bank.

Like every UK Foodbank, the Rhydfelin project is a local response to families and individuals in need. It often takes a little time for Government agenices to provide long-term support when personal circumstances change. The Foodbank exists to bridge the gap, putting food on the table at the recommendation of caring professionals or by direct referrals from the benefit agencies.

Thanks to Glamorgan’s 207kg and donations from local churches and community groups, the Rhydyfelin foodbank now has the 1.5 tonnes needed to start making emergency food parcels, and to issue food vouchers to participating professionals. But the need for donations is not over! Once the Foodbank opens to clients, new deposits will be needed to replace the food given away. So once again, this term, students and staff are asked to donate, on a regular basis, non-perishable foods such as:

  • tinned food (meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, puddings etc.)
  • long-life liquids (UHT milk, fruit juice etc.)
  • dry food (tea-bags, sugar, breakfast cereal, pasta, rice etc.)

You can bring your donations to the Meeting House on the Treforest Campus, or to the Admissions Office in the Aneurin Bevan Building on the Glyntaff Campus, Room GT582.

Students are welcome to join the Meeting House Group.
